Making Coffee, part 2
Household sounds
Coffee making paraphernalia
Part 2 of my recording of the simple act of making coffee. In this installment, you can hear the water boiling in the copper kettle on the electric range. Listen to the way the sounds change as the water gets hotter, and then falls off. I make coffee by pouring it through a paper filter fitted into a cone.

Making Coffee, part 1
Household sounds
Coffee making paraphernalia
When the pandemic forced so many places to close in March and April of 2020 and many of us were sent to work from home, I found myself listening more carefully to what was going on around me. Without the clatter and din of the workplace, I tuned in to simple, everyday sounds -- birds outside, humming fridge inside.
I've also always been interested in historic sounds. What did life sound like 100 years ago, 300 years ago? Fifty or a hundred years from now, will anyone be curious about what noises ordinary household tasks produced in 2022? In case they are, I have recorded the sounds of making coffee: filling a kettle from the faucet and setting it to boil on an electric range, fitting a filter into a coffee cone, spooning some sugar into a ceramic mug, etc. Hardly riveting, perhaps, but I enjoyed how the process made me really listen to the gestures and acts I perform everyday.

Dog walking
COVID-19 Pandemic, 2020-
During quarantine, dog walks had gotten a little more animated in the early afternoons as more kids were out playing in the streets. More neighbors without dogs have been walking the neighborhood and it feels as if every third house has a new basketball hoop.
